Through a brand new trailer, Nintendo and Ubisoft announced new downloadable content coming to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, one of the surprise hits on the Nintendo Switch in 2017. The trailer follows the Princess Peach dressed Rabbid who is attempting to flee tiki inspired enemies. As the enemies near, Donkey Kong swings into action, leaping down and launching Peach Rabbid to safety before taking out all of the baddies with a giant banana boomerang.
At this time, details are pretty slim on this new downloadable content. The content adds a completely original story alongside the aforementioned Kong as well as taking place in an all-new world. From the trailer alone, it’s reasonable to assume that players will be playing in a tropical location likely seen in one of the previous Donkey Kong Country games. Ubisoft has confirmed that the DLC will be available to purchase as standalone content, or for free to season pass holders.
After launching last August, the Ubisoft and Nintendo collaboration has exceeded expectations, scoring critical and commercial praise while quickly becoming the best selling third-party game on the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to iconic characters and gameplay inspired by the XCOM series, Mario + Rabbids managed to keep players engaged beyond the release window with new solo challenges and co-op maps. Fan patience has finally paid off with this unexpected downloadable content campaign announcement as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle looks to continue its strong momentum well into 2018.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is available now on the Nintendo Switch with the Donkey Kong DLC arriving Spring 2018.
